Full-Depth Patching "R&R"

Do More than just repair: EXTEND the life of your asphalt

Full-depth patching, often referred to as “remove and replace” (R&R), is a permanent asphalt repair method used when pavement damage extends beyond the surface. Unlike temporary fixes such as surface patching or pothole filling, full-depth patching addresses the underlying base to restore strength and extend the life of your pavement.

By cutting out and removing the damaged asphalt, repairing the base, and installing fresh hot mix asphalt, full-depth patching eliminates structural weaknesses and prevents further deterioration. Businesses and property managers often choose full-depth patching for areas with heavy traffic, severe cracking, rutting, or recurring potholes.

Materials

We use only fresh, dense-graded hot mix asphalt that meets or exceeds Colorado State Highway Specifications. This ensures durability and quality consistent with state roadway standards. Upon request, we provide manufacturer certification to confirm compliance with these strict material requirements.

Surface Preparation

We prepare each repair area carefully to guarantee proper adhesion and long-lasting results:

Cleaning – We sweep the surface to remove loose material and debris.

Cutting & Excavation – We saw-cut and remove the damaged asphalt to the contract-specified depth, typically 4–8 inches depending on the condition and load requirements.

Sub-base Compaction – We re-compact the exposed base to restore structural support.

Recycling – All removed asphalt is hauled off and returned to the plant for environmentally responsible recycling.

This process creates a clean, stable foundation for the new asphalt.

Application

Once the area is prepared, we apply new asphalt in carefully compacted lifts:

Tack Coat Application – We apply CSS-1H tack coat to all vertical surfaces to bond new asphalt to the existing pavement.

Layered Installation
– We place the hot mix asphalt in 2″–3″ lifts, thoroughly compacting each layer for maximum density.

Compaction – We use rollers and compaction equipment best suited for the size and scope of the job.

Neat Finish – All patch edges are squared and finished cleanly, blending seamlessly with the surrounding pavement.

This method ensures strength, durability, and a smooth, professional appearance.

Clean Up

We remove all debris, excess asphalt, and waste from the work site once repairs are complete. Your property is left clean, safe, and ready for immediate use.
